One of the great things about being in a band is getting to know other musicians and make connections with other bands. Hopefully most of those connections are easy and productive. Some have made me want to smash things (and occasionally people).
As a promoter and organizer of rock and roll shows, I’m learning that I would rather play a hundred shows with a mediocre band that communicates effectively and pulls its weight than one show with a monumentally talented band that doesn’t.
Fortunately, no such compromises were necessary on this night, as we had the privilege of playing with Supreme Remedy and Big Flakes, two bands consisting not only of some of the sweetest and kindest guys in the world, but also two groups of imminently talented and professional musicians I’ve had the pleasure of promoting.
I can tell you that I have never before played a show in which a full grown man was taken to twerking, planking, and holding an impromptu push-up contest with his girlfriend choreographed to music that I was playing. A note for next time: we love your enthusiasm, but it’s also good to know when to stand up and be a human. And for the love of dogs, keep your ass off the monitors!
I can’t say enough nice things, again, about Big Flakes and Supreme Remedy. These bands really fucking rock, and we had such a good time. If you have a chance to see either of them, you should definitely not miss it. I’m glad to say we all made some new friends as well.
Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support us crazy guys, and to everyone who helped put on an awesome show and a fun night.
We got some great shots taken by the eminently talented Quintan Neville which are now up on our media page. If you need a great guy to take great photos of your great band, go check him out. You won't regret it!
Copper Owl, by the way, is a wonderful space for a rock show, even though it looks like a lounge and the stage seems impossibly small until you get into it. The staff and equipment made everything that much smoother, and we can't thank them enough.
We should have some videos of the show up soonish, so check those out, and see you next time!
